I’ve always loved the creative world, studying the history of art and design at university. Whilst I felt lucky to spend time learning about Van Dyck, Damien Hirst, and everyone in-between, a highlight was designing Madonna’s bedroom on an Interior Design module. Much to my delight, I recently came across the plans and mood boards! Professionally, I went on to a fulfilling career in advertising for 15 years, however I always knew I’d come back to interiors.
I really enjoy the variety of being an interior designer – I’m a people person so I like getting to know what clients are interested in, and what’s important to them and their home. I also love the time in our studio creating and sourcing schemes – experimenting with different fabrics, wallpapers, colours and furniture to marry form and function. Niki and I often have ooh ahh moments when we see a stunning chair or an incredible pendant light. Apart from the creative side of the job, the left side of my brain gets an equal work out with the project management aspects, relying on years of experience managing advertising budgets and timing plans.
Favourite item in my house? A piece of art we chose for our wedding from friends and family. We searched high and low for the right painting but knew when we saw the one; the subject matter, colours and texture all spoke to us. I look at it every day as the centre piece for our dining room scheme.
When do I get most of my ideas? Running and cycling are passions of mine and enjoying the fresh air and headspace allows ideas to come to me that I can then explore back in the office. I also love to travel as often as I can; trying out new experiences and visiting new places is a rich source of inspiration for me.
