Ten design tips to suit every budget

Interior design is often easier when you have a larger space to play with, because there will be more freedom to let creativity shine through. However, if you have a smaller space, our designers can still help you to make the most of it with professional and creative design ideas. Here are some essential interior tips that will work regardless of the size of the room you are dealing with.

A mirror is much more than a tool to help you look at your reflection. It is also a fantastic way to make spaces feel bigger and brighter. A few carefully positioned mirrors can enhance the space and depth of a room.

2) Linking the flooring

There is a tendency for people to use wildly different floor covers in various parts of the home. This is fine, but if you link them properly you’ll create a better sense of flow and connectivity. This can help to make spaces feel bigger too.

3) A touch of colour

Keeping colours neutral means they will fit in with all kinds of trends. You can then add a touch of colour that can easily be changed if you need to. This is a great way to keep your property up to date without having to redecorate every season.

4) Star pieces

Every room should have a star piece that grabs attention. This could be anything from a piece of furniture to a light fitting. Whatever you choose, everything else should be built round it to create a great setting.

5) Explore textures

Mixing textures makes spaces feel more luxurious and look more glamorous. There is a great deal of freedom in this regard; you can combine fabrics, use various timbers and select contrasting metal accessories.

6) Plan ahead

Planning a space is always important and will save you money in the process. Mood boards can be useful when thinking about patterns, colours and fabrics. You should also create a scale layout of the room because it will give you a better idea of the space and how various items will work together.

7) Make an impact

Many people naturally choose small items for small rooms. This can work, but you will run the risk of cluttering. Instead, try having a large impact piece and select a few smaller pieces to go with it.

There is no better way to create mood than by choosing the right lighting. In fact, lights will be amongst the most powerful tools at your disposal. You have so much choice that it should be easy to create the feel you want for spaces.

9) The walls

Walls can be a blank canvas to display artwork, or an important feature in their own right.

10) Comfort

This is the ultimate rule. There is no use creating a space that looks like a scene for a photo shoot if it doesn’t feel good or work well for the people living in the property.
